Meet Dr. John S. Sottosanti

Dr. John S. ScottosantiJohn S. Sottosanti DDS received his BA degree from the University of Pennsylvania, his dental degree from Georgetown University and his graduate training in periodontics from the University of Southern California (USC) and the West Los Angeles VA Hospital Center.  For many years he was on the part-time faculty of the USC School of Dentistry.  He was co-founder, the Chair, and also the Moderator of the Annual USC Periodontal Symposium for 25 years.  This same symposium today is the longest running annual symposium in the nation on periodontal and implant therapy. Dr. Sottosanti enjoys teaching and has lectured at many major dental meetings throughout the United States and in a number of foreign countries.  His original research on plaque, calculus, and bone regeneration has appeared in many peer reviewed journals and textbooks.

Dr. Sottosanti is a past-president of the California Society of Periodontists and recently served a six year term on the Board of Trustees of the American Academy of Periodontology (perio.org).  He is a member of the Pierre Fauchard Academy (fauchard.org), an international dental honor society.  He is also a Fellow of the American College of Dentists (acd.org), the oldest major honorary organization for dentists in the United States.  Its members have exemplified excellence through outstanding leadership and exceptional contributions to dentistry and society. 

Dr. Sottosanti has had a practice in the La Jolla area limited to periodontal and implant treatment since 1983. He and his wife, Margaret, have three sons and three grandchildren.  His interests include travel, bicycling, music and golf.
